Debbie VanHal, LMSW

Welcome! My goal is to provide you with a warm, safe and comfortable environment. Although the time we spend together will look differently for each individual, I will always be honest, non-judgmental, accepting, and empathic. I take a strength-based approach, and I readily welcome every identity and background.

My clinical experience has included working with individuals from many cultures and ways of life. I especially have a heart for teens and young adults experiencing grief and loss, trauma and stress, life transitions such as a change in career/school, anxiety and depression. My roles have varied from crisis intervention in residential settings, to therapy for refugee individuals and groups, supporting sexual assault/abuse survivors, and leading grief support groups.

The primary therapy modalities and techniques I utilize are Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and mindfulness.  I graduated from Michigan State University with my Bachelors in Psychology and went on to complete my Masters in Social Work in 2016.

We are all human and imperfect, but always learning and growing. I hope you find that therapy is a safe haven where you can experience growth, but also find comfort in slowing down to make meaning of your current life experiences. I would be honored to be part of your journey.

Feel free to contact me via text, phone or email. I am currently doing telehealth appointments.
